Tell your parents your dating black guy

Dating under your dad's strict eye doesn't seem easy.

Do you respect their wishes and find someone who is welcome at home and around your family, or do you follow your heart and stay with the person you love even if your parents may not attend the wedding? I’ve explored this concept before, in relation to successful women, but I think it applies to Judaism as well. If they’re intelligent, they’re likely to be opinionated.

After deciding to enroll at Towson University, friends of mine joked about me going to “the hood” and the violence in the Baltimore area, but I was never worried.

Fitting into this lifestyle felt more natural to me than living in Rochester ever did.

What do you want to get out of your conversation with your dad?

Do you just want to inform him that you're now dating or do you have something more specific in mind, such as getting his permission to go to the prom with your new guy?
